Project and ethics of the hamstery
Purpose of the hamstery :
Thanks to serious hamsteries which are respectful about animals well-being and good care, we can have healthy lines of syrian hamsters. Thanks to this kind of hamsteries, we wish to stop unhealthy lines and consanguineous lines from pet shops, which are more about selling « stuffs » and make a profit without any respect of animals than about serious and responsible adoptions.
While working seriously on the species to only have healthy hamsters and trying to improve the species over generations, we offer to people a serious and easy alternative, which maybe will stop oneday intense breeding for pet shops purpose.
Moreover, serious and responsible adoptions are very important to us, so we will give our hamsters only to people who will be serious and respectful of our animals and who will take good care of them according to the syrian hamster needs. Besides we are concerned about the future of our hamsters so we commit to get back at the hamstery any adopted animal if the adopter can't keep him anymore.
Project of the hamstery :
We want to breed healthy syrian hamsters close to European standards, with good body type and good personality. It's also very important to us that our hamsters are tamed and get used to Human interaction.
The hamstery will work with the following colours at the moment : golden, rust, cinnamon, black, chocolate, dove and champagne. We want to work with two specifics markings for now : « dominant spot » and « tortoiseshell ». Later we would like to work with a line bringing together these two markings to get tricolour hamsters « Dsds Toto ».
Because we want to work with tortoiseshell, we will work around the « yellow » gene so we will also work with varieties of the previous colours combined with yellow.
We would like to work with longhaired hamsters only, though we may sometimes have shorthaired hamsters if their genotypes are interesting to us according to the project of the hamstery.
Ethics of the hamstery :
The hamstery will take good care of all his hamsters, according to the syrian hamsters needs. Any hamster in the hamstery will have an appropriate housing.
The hamstery will give to his hamsters a high-quality food.
The hamstery will bring any hamster to the vet without any delay if needed.
The hamstery will mate only healthy animals, old enough to be breeded and which will have a known pedigree.
The females of the hamstery won't have more than 2 litters during their life.
All of the hamsters of the hamstery will be handled everyday, adults and pups, in order to get used to Human interaction and to be friendly.
The hamstery will let go hamsters only to serious and sensible adopters knowing the syrian hamsters needs and who will take good care of our hamsters.
The hamstery will help the adopters to enlarge their knowing about syrian hamsters and to learn them how to take good care of hamsters.
The hamstery will accept to get back an adopted hamster if the adopter can't keep it anymore. Of course the adoption fees won't be pay off.
The hamstery will stay available to the adopter after the adoption if he have any questions or worries.
